Actor Johnny La: Defying the Odds in Hollywood as an Asian-American Actor

by eyesonhollywood
It is common in Hollywood for actors to be rejected time and time again, until they find the right foot in the door in the film industry.

Just like Lady Gaga, Chris Pratt, and Jim Carrey, who all rose to stardom
after countless failures, Johnny La will not be deterred from reaching his own
success in Hollywood. La has an upcoming appearance in the film “Once in a Blue
Moon”. The movie, starring Valeria Sweet and Phillip Andre Botello, is set to
release in early 2023. But, it took La some time to reach such an achievement.

Racism and bullying in early childhood were all dramatic factors of the
California native’s childhood. In early 2014, La and his family were visiting
Disneyworld in Florida, when a man started yelling at him and La’s family after
hearing them speak Chinese. This incident fueled La’s desire to make a
difference for Asian-Americans.

In college, La took a drama class and “fell in love,” and from there he knew
he wanted to pursue acting. In 2014, La moved to Los Angeles. In 2015, he
signed with Tangerine Talent and A.D.S. Management, kicking off his acting
career in film, TV, and commercials. In 2022, he co-starred in General
Hospital, sharing lines opposite of lead Kelly Thiebaud. He hopes to provide
representation for other Asian-Americans in the media.
