Born to actors Gary Lockwood and Denise DuBarry, hollywood royalty, Samantha Lockwood realized she wanted to pursue acting after working on an infomercial for her mother’s marketing agency at age 17. Over time, Lockwood has built an extensive resume, having starred in over 30 roles across TV shows, movies, commercials, and even music videos.
Growing up, she attended both public and private schools, eventually making her way to The University of California, Santa Barbara. There, she received her Bachelor’s degree in acting. Since then, Lockwood has furthered her education by taking a directing course at New York Film Academy and production courses at UCLA. She has also worked with some of the most talented acting coaches in Los Angeles.
Her favorite genres to star in are action movies and romantic comedies. In her first short film Turn Back Now (2004), Lockwood played the character Daryl. That same year, she portrayed a teenage drug addict on an episode of CSI: NY, titled “Manhattan Manhunt.” Speaking of her action scene with Alex O’Loughlin in the season six premiere of Hawaii Five-0, playing the character Cindy Patterson, “I didn’t know I could pull off stunts as well as I did,” Lockwood says of her work in the episode, which stands as a highlight of her career.
In 2010, Lockwood was the lead in Shoot the Hero, working alongside Jason Mewes and Danny Trejo. Her work as the character Kate earned her immense praise. The film was even picked up by Showtime.
Lockwood’s work in commercials is equally impressive. In 2011, she starred in the Miller Light “Skinny Jeans” Super Bowl Commercial, alongside Meghan Markle. She has also appeared in the Old Navy Yoga Wear commercials, as well as various campaigns for Apple and Khush.
As for her music video cameos, most notable is her appearance as J.T. Hodges’ love interest in his 2012 video for “Goodbyes Made You Mine.” This year, she is featured in “Tere Bin,” directed by Haider Sher Khan for Bollywood.
Recently, Lockwood has been collaborating on some exciting projects. In the works is a music video with Salman Khan, a well-known artist from India. She also wrapped a scene in the upcoming Nick Cassavetes film God is a Bullet.
When asked how she prepares for the wide variety of roles, Lockwood explains, “If it’s a role based on a real person, I study their life, their relationships, habits, likes, and dislikes. If the role is fictional, I try to stick with what the writer provides about the character.”
Outside of her acting career, Lockwood is the CEO of Fleurings, a vase jewelry line, as well as a yoga instructor. It was during her teen years when she became interested in yoga, earning the title of youngest certified Bikram Yoga Teacher. Lockwood has traveled to Tokyo, London, New York City, and San Francisco to share her craft with the world.
As for the future, Lockwood has a variety of goals. She wants to continue starring in thrilling action and comedy films, along with movies based on true stories. One of her biggest dreams is to work with Quentin Tarantino, Netflix and Amazon, as well as star in some Bollywood films.
“Success is when you have so shared your light with the world that your life becomes a fond memory or energy to all the lives it has touched. Success is not something I define as achieved at the expense of others,” Lockwood expresses.
