Winter fashion combines warmth and style, letting you stay cozy while looking chic. With the right wardrobe essentials, you can face the cold weather in confidence and comfort. Here are must-have items to elevate your winter style.

Cozy Sweaters Chunky knits, turtlenecks, and cable-knit sweaters are winter staples. Opt for neutral shades like beige or gray for versatility, or choose bold colors to brighten gloomy days. Layer them over button-up shirts or under blazers for extra warmth and style.

Stylish Boots Footwear is crucial for winter style and practicality. Knee-high boots are perfect for dressier looks, while chunky combat boots add edge and traction on icy streets. Consider waterproof styles to stay dry during winter showers.

Accessories that Pop Scarves, gloves, and beanies are both functional and fashionable. Choose cashmere or wool for warmth, and experiment with bright colors or patterns to contrast neutral outfits. Leather gloves add a touch of sophistication.

The start of a new year is the perfect time to set goals and strive for self-improvement. But too often, resolutions fade because they’re overly ambitious or lack a clear plan. Here’s how to set realistic goals and actually achieve them in the coming year.

Be Specific and Clear
Vague goals like “get fit” or “save money” can be hard to follow. Instead, define clear objectives: “Go to the gym three times a week” or “Save $200 monthly.” Specific goals provide a clear path forward.

Make Your Goals Measurable
Tracking progress keeps motivation high. Use numbers or milestones to measure success. For example, if your goal is to read more, commit to “read 12 books this year” rather than just “read more.”

Set Attainable Goals
While dreaming big is encouraged, be honest about what’s possible given your current circumstances. Setting goals slightly outside your comfort zone ensures growth while keeping discouragement at bay.

Stay Relevant and Purpose-Driven
Your goals should align with your values and what truly matters to you. This connection keeps you motivated through challenges. If you value health, for instance, aim for goals like “cook healthy meals at home three times a week.”

Create a Timeline
Deadlines prevent procrastination. Break long-term goals into smaller steps with target dates. If your goal is to run a marathon by year’s end, set monthly mileage targets.

Be Flexible and Adjust as Needed
Life happens. If circumstances change, adjust your goals instead of abandoning them. Flexibility ensures progress even when obstacles arise.

Celebrate Wins, Big and Small
Acknowledge achievements along the way. Small victories fuel motivation and reinforce positive habits.

As you plan your New Year’s resolutions, remember that success comes from consistency and adaptability. By setting clear, realistic goals and staying committed, you’ll turn resolutions into lasting achievements.

Miami has long been a hub for vibrant culture, dynamic storytelling, and creative visionaries. Among its emerging talents, Sergio Vizuete is a name the city—and soon the world—needs to know. The award-winning executive, who has spent 25 years excelling in advertising, is poised to make waves with his feature film debut, Becoming Vera, set for release in 2025.

Raised in Spain and now splitting his time between Miami and Los Angeles, Vizuete brings an international perspective to his storytelling. His career began in the high-octane advertising world, crafting campaigns for global brands like the Los Angeles Lakers, T-Mobile, Ducati, Lexus, and Real Madrid. Collaborating with luminaries such as Kobe Bryant, Becky G, and Sebastián Yatra, Sergio developed a distinctive style—natural yet cinematic, deeply emotional yet understated.

But his passion for storytelling extends far beyond commercials. “Film has always been where my heart is,” Vizuete admitted in a recent interview. After years of building a reputation in advertising, he has made the bold leap to feature filmmaking. His debut project, Becoming Vera, tells the heartfelt story of a young pianist battling homelessness and poverty, while trying to pursue her dream of making it in the world of Latin Jazz.

This is more than a movie for Sergio—it is a personal mission. A foster parent himself, he draws on his own experiences to create an authentic, poignant, and profoundly empathetic narrative. “Working with foster children has shown me the strength of their resilience,” he said in a recent interview. He wants Becoming Vera to entertain and inspire understanding and action for these children and young adults, who deserve much more.

Vizuete’s commitment to social impact is not new. He has collaborated with organizations like Voices for Children and Citrus, using his platform to advocate for underserved communities. His work reflects a unique blend of artistry and activism, proving that cinema can be both entertaining and transformative.

Miami’s thriving arts scene has been a source of inspiration for Sergio. “There is something about this city—the colors, the rhythm, the diversity—that fuels creativity,” he shares. “It is the perfect place to bring stories to life.”

As Becoming Vera prepares to be released, Sergio is already looking ahead. He hopes to continue making films that blend stunning visuals with compelling narratives, shining a light on stories that often go untold.

With his unique ability to connect with audiences on a deeply emotional level, Sergio Vizuete is more than a filmmaker—he is a storyteller who captures the soul of his subjects and the spirit of his community.

Follow Sergio’s journey on Instagram (@sergiovizuete) to stay updated on Becoming Vera and his ongoing work to inspire change through film.

Western Pennsylvania Entrepreneur Derek Candelore recently welcomed his 4th Child into the World, a Baby Boy named Zayne.

Now a Father of Two Girls and Two Boys, a nice big family, indeed. We had the opportunity to interview Derek Candelore on what his Practice of Positivity means to him, what techniques he implores and the usage and functions.

Derek told us “In addition to Prayer and Meditation I have an arsenal of Weapons to make sure the Holy Spirit lives in me on a daily basis”.

Derek gave us his recipe below…

– Cutting out Sugars and Carbohydrates that cause bodily inflammation

– Filtering Water with Berkey Water Filtration System, to reduce harmful chemicals in the Water

– Natural Earth supplied, God given Supplementation, not Vaccinations

– Bone Broth and Turmeric, Black Pepper for Inflammation and Gut Health

– Prayer, Repentance and Meditation with burning of Frankensense (the gift given to the Virgin Mary on the day Jesus was born) to create a vessel from Earth to God’s ears in Heaven to hear Prayers

– Clearing of Negative thoughts, limiting beliefs and Gossip, the Bible says Thou Shalt Not Fear 365 times, the exact number of days in a year… Gossiping about others only brings down one’s vibration causing poor outcomes

– Generosity, Altruism & Building People Up, the Bible says, “To Whom Much is Given, Much is Expected” and Derek practices the use of Secret Code of giving, without recognition, or any return on generosity… Knowing, it returns, two-fold

– Love & Positivity, Derek practices always talking people up and helping others achieve ideal outcomes and growth as individuals and organizations by continually providing opportunities and helping guide a path to success

– Happiness, Derek chooses to be Happy, and loves the opportunity to look to the upside, even in the most adverse situations

– Exercise, not for vanity of big bulky, useless muscles to show off, but rather for overall wellness and longevity. Derek trains with high heart rate HIIT style training and is a retired amateur boxing champion

– Discipline, without Stress and Unworthy Concern, Derek believes life is too short to be nervous and micromanage every single detail of daily activities. He believes you only learn from experience, trial and error and that nobody walking this Earth is without flaws

– Elimination of Toxic People, Derek made it clear that a Loss of a Toxic person is actually a Win. Derek said he forgives, and wishes the best upon people who have broken his trust with words or actions, and wishes them the absolute best in life, stating “I still want them to eat, just not at our table”

– Providing for less Fortunate, Children, Elderly, Pets, Poor is something that Derek believes God has gifted Derek with the task of and he relishes in the opportunity to do so

– Understanding his personal Flaws and Weaknesses, Derek constantly studies his own personal flaws and weaknesses to make adjustments and hire others to cover areas where he is lacking

– Growth, Derek believes he is only scratching the surface in Life, his Businesses, Love and his Spiritual Journey, and plans to leave a Legacy for his Four Children, Nitalia, Carter, Giana and Zayne

– Bloodline and Legacy, Derek is an Italian, Syrian, German combination with Bloodlines to his knowledge from Italy (Venturino Candelori, Louis and Mary Candelore, Wayne Candelore and Syria via Jidul Hakim, Thomas and Betty Hakim, Susan Rife. His youngest Son, Zayne, named after his late Father, Wayne

The holiday season is just around the corner, and finding the perfect gift for friends and family can sometimes feel like a daunting task. Whether you’re looking for something unique, practical, or indulgent, here are some creative and thoughtful gift ideas that are sure to delight everyone on your list.

Personalized Gifts
Personalization adds a special touch to any gift. Customized items, like engraved jewelry, monogrammed bags, or personalized home decor, show that you’ve put thought into selecting something unique for the recipient. You can even create custom family portraits or photo books to commemorate memorable moments.

Subscription Services
Subscription boxes are a fun and practical gift that keeps on giving. From meal kits and beauty products to book clubs and coffee beans, there’s a subscription service for nearly every interest. Choose one that aligns with the recipient’s hobbies or passions, making it a gift that lasts well beyond the holidays.

Experience Gifts
Instead of giving a physical item, why not gift an experience? Tickets to a concert, theater show, or sporting event can create lasting memories. You could also gift a cooking class, wine tasting, or a weekend getaway. Experience-based gifts are perfect for people who already have everything they need or who value shared moments over material goods.

Tech Gadgets and Accessories
For the tech lover in your life, gadgets like smart home devices, wireless chargers, or portable speakers make fantastic gifts. If they already have the latest gadgets, consider accessories like stylish phone cases, Bluetooth trackers, or a cozy smartwatch band.

DIY Gifts
Handmade gifts are a heartfelt way to show you care. Bake cookies or make jam in festive jars. If you’re crafty, you can knit scarves, create candles, or design personalized ornaments. These gifts add a personal and thoughtful touch that money can’t buy.

Sustainable Gifts
As sustainability continues to gain momentum, eco-friendly gifts are a hit. Reusable water bottles, bamboo utensils, plant-based skincare products, or zero-waste starter kits are perfect for the environmentally conscious. Not only are these gifts practical, but they also promote a more sustainable lifestyle.

Self-Care Kits
Help your loved ones unwind and relax with a self-care kit. You can assemble a personalized package with items like candles, bath salts, essential oils, and cozy socks. Throw in a good book or a face mask to complete the ultimate stress-relief package.

Creative Kitchen Tools
For the home chef, consider gifting unique kitchen gadgets or cooking tools. Air fryers, sushi-making kits, coffee grinders, or gourmet spice sets are sure to spark culinary creativity. You can also gift a beautifully illustrated cookbook to inspire new dishes.

Plant Gifts
Indoor plants are not only trendy but also great for improving air quality. Consider gifting low-maintenance plants like succulents, snake plants, or a stylish terrarium. For green thumbs, you can opt for herb-growing kits or even bonsai trees for a more challenging but rewarding experience.

Charitable Donations
For those who have everything, a donation to their favorite charity in their name can be a meaningful gift. Many organizations offer the option to purchase gifts like clean water, meals for the homeless, or school supplies for children in need.

Whatever your budget or the recipient’s interests, thoughtful, personalized, and creative gifts will make this holiday season unforgettable.

On September 24, 2024, the Eretz Cultural Center held a moving event, “October 7th… One Year Later: A Night of Reflection and Unity,” commemorating the resilience of the Jewish community and fostering hope for a brighter future.

The evening began with virtual appearances from honorees Rabbi Abraham Cooper and Eden Golan. Rabbi Cooper, representing the Simon Wiesenthal Center, reflected on decades of leadership in combating antisemitism and promoting tolerance worldwide. Eden Golan, an Israeli Eurovision finalist, shared an inspiring message of how music can break barriers and unite people across divides.

A highlight of the event was the engaging 30-minute panel discussion featuring Emmy-winning journalist Stella Escobedo and human rights advocate Emily Schrader, moderated by Eden Burkow. Escobedo shared insights from her career at One America News Network, focusing on the media’s role in amplifying underrepresented voices. Schrader, a prominent writer and activist, discussed her efforts to combat antisemitism and promote human rights through her platform Social Lite Creative.

Lisa Daftari, founder of The Foreign Desk and a seasoned investigative journalist, delivered the final speech. Her words inspired the audience, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience amid challenges.

The event was made possible thanks to the generous support of Dr. Kevin Coppelson, a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon based in Los Angeles and Westlake Village. Dr. Coppelson provides free surgical care to survivors of the Nova music festival attack, demonstrating his commitment to community service. His practice specializes in advanced techniques for facial skeletal augmentation, addressing maxillofacial deformities and sleep-related breathing disorders.

The night concluded with a heartfelt musical performance by Carine Basili, who sang “October Rain” in Arabic alongside an Israeli singer, symbolizing unity and shared humanity.

The Cherokee people have existed since time immemorial?
Is it that we’re from the ancient ones, that we have rich history, or what exactly? As Cherokee, we are all of that – born of the ancient ways, filled with rich history – and so much more. This is who we are.

Immemorial is symbolic of the shared history of our people. That we can’t look over the horizon of history and not see ourselves. Immemorial means since the beginning, together. That no matter how far back we look, we are one, unified Cherokee people. As we work, as Cherokee people, for the rights of our fellow Cherokee, we must join in unison to sustain that shared history, since time immemorial.

Do not let our differences divide us. Join me, as Cherokee people, from One Fire, in honoring all Cherokee, past, present, and future by reminding ourselves: I am Cherokee. We are one Cherokee people. We are from One Fire, given to us by the Creator. We join together to honor our ancestors, to remember and pay homage to their fight for place, peace and freedom. We share a commitment, as Cherokee people, to each other, our Creator, and all things living. We commit ourselves to each other, we recognize our shared rights, and we stand as one Cherokee people – from One Fire, together immemorial.

“Join me in sharing our One Fire pledge. We acknowledge our unity, which binds us to each other, to our Creator, to our ancestors, and to our collective future of place, peace, and prosperity.”

    Native American Land Acknowledgment

The Library of Congress has long treasured and preserved Native American collections in a variety of formats. Today, the Library is dedicated to building vibrant partnerships with Native American communities; providing respectful, consultative, and appropriate access to historic Native American materials; promoting innovative scholarship on Native American collections; collecting contemporary Native American works; and cultivating and celebrating distinguished achievements by Native American scholars and creators.

Located near the confluence of the Potomac and Anacostia rivers, the Library of Congress is built on land that is part of the homelands of the Nacotchtank (Anacostan), Piscataway Conoy, Pamunkey, and Manahoac people. Indigenous peoples, including members of these nations, still live and practice their teachings and cultures here today. The Library honors these stewards of the land, and all of the Indigenous peoples of the United States, who are the first peoples, including those in the region where the Library now provides its services. The Library works to interact with these groups in a responsible and respectful way.

Land acknowledgment is a traditional custom that dates back centuries in many Native nations and communities. Today, land acknowledgments are used by Native peoples and non-Natives to recognize Indigenous peoples who are the original stewards of the lands on which we now live and work. (National Museum of the American Indian external link)

The Library of Congress has developed its own land acknowledgment statement with input, guidance and consultation from Native organizations and institutions. Library employees may choose to use one of several variations on the statement above when introducing a program, giving a presentation, signing an email message or letter, or publishing a paper or article. Use of these statements is optional and voluntary for Library of Congress staff.

Background on Developing the Library’s Land Acknowledgment Statements

In developing the language for this land acknowledgment statement, the Library of Congress wishes to convey that the Library respects and serves all Indigenous peoples throughout the entire nation.  At the same time, we especially acknowledge those Native Nations historically and presently situated in the immediate region where the Library provides its services, defined as encompassing the main campus of the Library adjacent to the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall, and also Library satellite locations and facilities in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

The use of the term “diversity” in the statement refers to those of the many sovereign Native Nations who have been present in the territory that is now the United States since time immemorial. The term is also inclusive of Indigenous persons who originate from across modern international boundaries and who make vibrant lives in our region and urban life today.

With the statement, the Library also seeks to emphasize the acknowledgment of Native peoples as the traditional custodians of lands and cultures pre-dating the Library’s settler colonial presence and the Library’s current mission of service.

The acknowledgment also refers to the unique shaping of our location by adjacent waterways, which have long been used, respected, and known to Native people as sources of livelihood and means of migration, interaction, and travel, and which originate in and connect to other regions while defining the land mass on which the U.S. capital city and the Library of Congress are positioned.

In formulating this statement, a working group studied land acknowledgment statements in use by other cultural institutions and consulted with regional Indigenous authorities and Native American librarians and cultural representatives.
