That realization sparked a new mission: to dedicate his expertise to building a healthier generation of kids, with a focus on daily fitness, smarter nutrition, and mental resilience.
At the center of Torchia’s vision is a return to mandatory daily physical education in schools nationwide. But his approach would look very different from traditional gym class. Instead of rote drills, he imagines sessions that combine strength, coordination, flexibility, and competitive but fun activities. Each class would begin with proper warm-ups and end with mindfulness practices like breathing or relaxation techniques. “The goal is to make fitness enjoyable and sustainable, creating habits kids will carry into adulthood,” he explains.

Torchia also believes America needs updated benchmarks for youth fitness, modeled after JFK’s Presidential Fitness Test. His version would measure endurance, strength, flexibility, and coordination, but with a focus on kids improving against themselves, not just competing with classmates. “National standards would provide accountability for schools and a sense of achievement for students,” he says.
Torchia’s holistic philosophy extends beyond the gym. He champions sports like golf, which not only develop physical skills but also patience, strategy, and respect, qualities he sees as invaluable in a world of constant distraction.
Nutrition is another urgent piece of his mission. Through Operation Fitness, Torchia advocates for replacing processed, sugary cafeteria staples with fresh fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Just as important, he pushes for food education, teaching kids to understand where meals come from and how to make healthy choices.
And in a nod to his belief that mental health is as vital as physical strength, Torchia promotes daily mindfulness practices in schools. “Just like exercise strengthens the body, mindfulness strengthens the mind,” he says.
Torchia’s unique perspective comes from years of working with Hollywood stars, where he learned that even the most successful people need encouragement, accountability, and personalized programs. “The same applies to kids. Every child is unique, what motivates one may discourage another,” he notes.
That philosophy now drives his Shape Up America Campaign, launched with the support of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition. The initiative brings fitness challenges, cooking demonstrations, health screenings, and even pet-friendly wellness events to cities nationwide. It’s a family-focused approach designed to inspire long-term, collective change.

If appointed to the President’s Council, Torchia says his first priority would be reinstating mandatory daily PE in every American school. From there, he envisions a national push for healthier cafeteria meals, updated fitness standards, and the integration of mindfulness programs into the classroom.
“I truly believe we can spark a national movement to raise healthier, prouder, and more resilient children,” Torchia says. With his blend of Hollywood-tested expertise and heartfelt purpose, he’s proving that fitness is more than a career, it’s a legacy.
