“The Tempest” is created by director Andrew Sogamoso, a California native whose profound passion for film and storytelling has been a lifelong pursuit. His artistic journey is deeply intertwined with his personal narrative, shaped by the sacrifices and dreams of his parents, who emigrated from Colombia in 1955 in pursuit of the American Dream for their children.
Andrew’s start in screenwriting began in 1999, sparked by the passing of his father. He dedicated months to refining his craft, receiving invaluable mentorship from notable figures like Jack Gilbert, then head of the prestigious Warner Brothers Writers Workshop. Despite a promising start and a prolific output of scripts, Andrew faced significant personal challenges that put his creative endeavors on hold. The sudden illness and passing of Jack, followed by his mother Blanca suffering a stroke in 2008, led him to become her caretaker for seven years, a period he describes as life-changing. All his writing was shelved, its return uncertain.
However, after his mother’s peaceful passing in 2015, Andrew felt a renewed impetus to revisit his scripts. This led him to co-write and executive produce the crime thriller “SERIAL BEAUTY” (currently available on Amazon Prime), which went on to win “Best Mystical Film” at the 2025 World Film Festival at Cannes. His extensive background as a corporate tax manager also saw him appointed as CFO of Sigal Erez’s production company, High Water Films.

In 2020, Andrew officially launched his own production company, Reel Vintage Entertainment. He is currently developing a diverse slate of projects, including “Home by the Sea,” “The Gravity of God,” “XOXO My Love,” “On Holy Ground,” “The Lady of Lacrimosa,” and, of course, “The Tempest” and its sequel, “The Tempest: Phoenix War.” Each of these quality productions aims to tell a unique story that resonates deeply with audiences. Andrew’s unique blend of creative vision and strategic insight, sharpened by over two decades in the tax industry, allows him to approach filmmaking with both artistic passion and business strategy. He sums up his journey with a reflection: “The past teaches me the value of perseverance.”
Director Andrew Sogamoso shares the intriguing insight behind the making of “The Tempest,” revealing it started from his dissatisfaction with the contemporary bodyguard genre. “The latest films released over the last ten years certainly confirmed that in my mind. The best ‘bodyguard’ movie I’ve ever watched was Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston’s, The Bodyguard. That was thirty-three years ago! I felt it was now about time to toss my skull cap into the ring,” he explains.
This frustration fueled his desire to create a story he himself longed to see on the big screen. “The Tempest” delves into profound themes of broken families, unresolved childhood traumas, and the universal search for true happiness. These complex layers are intricately woven into the narrative involving its two central characters: Aaron and Elisha Moore’s character, Gracie. The success of these characters, Andrew notes, is “heavily grounded in the choices they make and the moral clarity they understand about themselves and each other.”

Andrew reveals a core paradox within the film: “However, the ironic thing about this story is that it has little to do about being a bodyguard. We learn that Aaron is much more than that, a far more dangerous individual than ever imagined. And while it appears that he’s saving Gracie from harm, it is Gracie who ultimately will save Aaron from himself.”
Andrew’s overarching message for audiences is one of unwavering hope and resilience: “No matter what life throws at you, if you pursue it in the spirit of truth, you will prevail.” With Actress Elisha Moore leading a cast that promises action, drama, and thriller elements, and Andrew Sogamoso’s unique vision, “The Tempest” is set to be a powerful cinematic action experience that defies genre expectations.
