The first AI filmmaker has arrived. Named Satori-5, the AI auteur is the brainchild of director Quinn Halleck and production studio Late Arrivals. Satori-5’s first short film is titled ./sigma_001. The film’s trailer premiered last night at “AI on the Lot” a convention hosted by AI LA, NVIDIA, Variety, and Late Arrivals with the goal of bringing together Hollywood thought leaders with AI technologists.
./sigma_001 follows an engineer (John D. Michaels) at a fictionalized big tech company who sneaks a skeptical journalist (Maria-Elena Laas) inside to interview what he believes is the first sentient AI (Chase Simone).
With new AI technologies emerging daily, the film highlights the possibilities, risks, and implications of how AI will shift society. True to its subject matter,./sigma_001 utilizes AI in every stage of its production process—from ideation to VFX to distribution—marking a significant step forward in the integration of AI into traditional creative workflows.
